are all teenagers utterlly filthy?!

i know teenagers have a habit of lax hygene and tidyness but i find my step-daughters minging behaviour beyond acceptable standards.
like me when i was 15 its messy bedrooms, leaving clothes draped around, leaving cups out etc.
her bedroom is often festooned with various cups displaying levels of bacterial growth etc. but what i witnessed yesterday was period stained pants discarded on the bedroom floor, a couple of pairs. often used tampons will be rolled up in their packaging and left of the toilet cistern. maybe its my fault because i chucked the bin out of the bathroom long ago.
does anyelse witness this level of filthyness? she's in her last year at school, takes no pride in her appearance and has always been lazy/dirty.

I remember our last family holiday with her, she was 16. It was baking hot, and she spent the majority of the holiday cocooned in her sleeping bag inside the tent snoring in unbelievably hot weather.
And i smacked her when she did anything grossly wrong as a tot sqad, and it didn't make a blind bit of a diference in the teen years, so perhaps it works in some cases and not others?

yes to clarify I'm male and stepdad to 15 year old and have 5 year old - both girls.
as for the hygene i do alot of clearing up after to make sure tidyness doesnt slip into health hazard. i draw the line at picking these pants off the floor. i told wife about it wednesday night, she told 15 year old to pick them up. they are still there as of this morning.
Boo is right - you cant educate pork. All i can do is attempt to create a safe environment as intelligent reasoning is wasted on your average teenager. I was the same (untidy, not dirty)

My daughters were pretty untidy when they were teenagers. One was worse than the other and still is despite her now being a mum to a 2 year old and a newborn. I tried everything to get her to be clean and tidy but nothing worked. It got to the point of me thrusting cans of deodorant at her whenever I saw her, and I used to run baths for her every day too. My other daughter is now a clean freak, her house is spotless and her kids (age 2 and age 1) and her are always well turned out.
