vitreous haemorrhage

just asking has anyone sufferered from this or knows of anyone who has had it.
whats the treatment, is it recoverable from. i have got the symptoms in my left eye and due to see the doctor on tuesday 26th but would like a heads up
any help appreciated

There is an ABer who is either an Ophthalmologist or an Optician who is excellent at answering these sort of questions.....unfortunately I cannot remember his username.
Anyway, until he sees your question, here is a rough review.

It is a bleeding at the back of the eye infront of the cornea and may be idiopathic (nobody knows the cause), due to BP or a complication of diabetes. There a rare causes, but they shouldn't concern you at the moment.

The Ophthalmic surgeon will investigate the above causes, but will probably do nothing.......masterly inactivity...........just monitor the situation.

I have had this op in my right eye about 4 years ago at Whipps Cross eye hospital.
Had the whole Vitreous replaced. You may get away with laser treatment though.

Hope your consultation went well. Have seen a few vit haemmorhages and the outcome of most have been excellent. Some were left alone to self resolve by which the blood absorbs over a few months. Others needed a vitrectomy where the vitreous gel is removed and replaced with a similar substance. These patients commonly develop cataract as a consequence to the surgery. Sorry about a late post but hope all is well.
