hi, i often read on here about people who get DLA, people sharing their personal experiences etc.
I wanted to make everybody aware that the coalition are planning on replacing this benefit completely for everyone, (despite previously saying they wouldn't)
anyway, there is currently a consultation going on, which surprisingly hasn't been in the news, so if you have something to say about the government plans to scrap DLA, please respond to the consultation

And just so this is a question, have you ever replied to a consultation before and do you think it makes the slightest iota of difference?

bednobs - it looks like they are replacing it with exactly the same type of benefit - but I think there must be a catch somewhere, that means the person receiving the benefit will be penalised.

Sorry bednobs but even though I get DLA I lost the will to live half way through reading it and what I did seemed like a pointless exercise. I don't for one minute think it will make any difference responding to it. The Government will do exactly what they want as always.

I suppose the name gives it away a bit,independence means a lot to disabled people,but there is a fine line between what someone can do all the time or just some of the time.Some illnesses have good days and bad,I don't think they will take the bad days into account somehow.

They won't listen to current claimants of DLA, they have to be seen to be doing so but will ignore all input as they (govt) always do.

There will be many claimants who will be denied the new benefit despite the fact they are in need of the extra financial help, what will happen to those people I wonder? I know that there is no way I can work and if my DLA (or equivalent) was taken away I would have to consider whether I would be too much of a burden on my loved ones,....and how I would rectify that.

hi r1 and doc - they are replacing it with a benefit called personal independence payment (PIP). Dla has nothing to do with work - it's a non means tested benefit and quite a lot of the people on it are in work.

I haven't met anyone who has successfully applied for this benefit! I hae a friend in a wheelchair who was turned down. I also, can't walk or stand up most days, and fear a wheelchair is imminent. Even though I filled the form out as per my worst day, I was still turned down. Is this usual?

it's fairly usual to be turned down the first time unless you apply under "special rules"

My daughter gets DLA, she is totally 100% dependant on others, so your post bednobs, does concern me.

What I'll do now, is contact he Social Worker to find out more.
