Plastic flower pots

It's that time of year again for planting up the garden and filling the decorative tubs with flowers. Does anyone know if the plastic pots that plants are sold in can be recycled? My guess is that most are thrown away in dustbins and probably millions go for landfill in the course of a season. What do you do with yours?

put them in a box near your front gate saying free to a good home another gardener will take them

There is a garden centre near me which offers plant pot recycling, Monkton Elm in Somerset, it's the only one I've come across though.

I wash them & give them to a local charity shop

Well I think they do, but thinking about it I'm not sure what they actually do with them when the bin is full.

There is a growing demand for recycling all manner of waste plastic driven by commercial recyclers and of course the price of oil based products which includes plastic, see the website which tries to bring together the gardeners, garden centres and plastic recyclers / processors to build recycling system across the UK.
