I have, on floppy disc, a database of albums and cd's. This was done in Excel and then copied to the disc. Now I can't open the file from the disc. It says there is a problem in Excel.exc. I have tried opening it on another computer to no avail, so it is the disc. Have I lost all this info? I have posted this before but I cant find the answer.
You could try a disk check (found on the Properties window of the floppy drive) - it can attempt to repair files if it finds that the disk is corrupt but is unlikely to be able to salvage a Excel file. If the disk appears to be ok than can you remember what version of Excel created the file - is it later than the version you are trying to use now ? It could be that an older version may not recognise the newer Excel format (but you would expect Microsoft to be able to trap this and display an appropriate error message )
check what the file is. Excel is not a database package and it is impossible to create a database using excel. You could be trying to open a database in excel instead of (for example) Access, which is impossible.
Thanks for your help, but none of your suggestions have worked. I am opening it on the same system that I used to put it together. I take it that it is lost. Thanks again.
Run Scandisk on the floppy making sure that "Automaticly fix all errors is NOT ticked". Also make sure it is checked under "Thorough" NOT "Standard" check.
