Squad- Endometrial cells present in smear test results.
7 Answers
Hi Squad, I wondered if you could give me a bit of info please regarding my ex's smear test result as she's quite worried and would appreciate some advice pending her appointment.
She had a normal cervical smear test last month but has now been asked to have a uterine biopsy as there were endometrial cells present in her test. She was investigated a few years ago as she had irregular bleeding and was found to have a thickened uterine lining (after a scan) which they said needed no treatment. We have been apart for a while now and apparently the inter menstrual bleeding has increased as has the severity of her proper periods. She is 42, otherwise fit and well, not overweight, non smoker, non drinker, non drug taker has had seven children ( normal births) and several miscarriages.
Please let me know if you need any more info, as she's got herself in a tizz about it probably being cancer. Thanks in advance.

This does not smack of uterine cancer.
Endometrial cells in a cervical smear is not unusual and is not diagnostic of any particular disorder.
I would have thought that two benign uterine conditions come to mind:
1) Endometriosi s
2) Dysfunctiona l uterine bleeding.

2) Dysfunctional uterine bleeding.
She should see her GP again as another uterine biopsy will put the diagnosis on a more realistic plain.
