I am trying to diet, Just need to lose another half a stone. I am eating small bowl Special K for my breakfast, Slimasoup at 11.15. Tuna lunch at 13.00, fat reduced biccy at 3.30 and a Weightwatchers meal in the evening. If I feel peckish I am having a rice cake with low fat cream cheese about 21.00. I have stopped taking sugar using sweetners instead and am drinking only fruit teas. I have lost Half a stone in three weeks, but nothing since then. What am I doing wrong?
nothing. Your body is most likely going into defence mode cos it thinks it's slowly being starved. Most dieters find an initial burst of weightloss, followed by nothing for a while - this is the body saying "oh my god the calorie intake has gone down, slow down metabolism" as it starts to realise your calorie input is lower than usual. It can't hold out forever as long as calorie output exceeds input, and eventually weightloss will continue - continue with your dietry plan, and keep exercising (which boosts metabolism anyway) and you should start to see the weight coming off again in a week or two
btw this is the biggest reason for diet failures, as people naturally think they have a cr@p metabolism and are destined to be overweight so give up trying, so STICK AT IT! - it will eventually kick back in!
Thanks Darth Vader. I have been trying to use my exercise cycle to do 6 miles an evening and also 50 sit ups. BUT, I get home from work and I have been so tired. I must make more of an effort.
Seems like you're doing a pretty good job, as darth vader said the body's reaction to a reduction in incoming food is to store up some more calories so just keep going, the other thing I'd say is that varying things as much as possible, eat plenty of fruit, and drink loads of cold water. Your tiredness might also stem from lowering your calorie intake. Ironically excerise is a great way to keep your body awake, once you get into a routine you'll find yourself energy levels increasing.
Just thought I'd mention that Weightwatcher meals aren't the only thing you can eat. You'll find loads of other foods that are also lower in fat and calories, but cheaper. It's always a good idea to check the packaging.
Quitting eating at 21.00 will probably help a bit. Try not to eat after 19.00...that way you won't go to bed with food in your stomache that you won't burn off.
cutting out a rice cake and cream cheese before you go to bed will make naff all difference IMHO...... (you HAVE to enjoy what you're doing otherwise the weightloss won't be permanent, so don't cut out the little "treats" - just make sure the treats are healthier, the rice cake/cream cheese being a good example)
Just a weightwatchers frozen meal. I have weighed myself again today and not an ounce lost. I have been really good. Had to go out for a meal with friends, I just had the soup to start followed by grilled fish with plain boiled vegetables, no sweet AND slimline drinks. Boh Hoo!!!
Just a thought - where are you in your menstrual cycle. When on a weight loss program, I normally stop losing weight (sometimes gain up to 5 lbs), in the week before a period. All is not lost - keep up the good work and try to drink as much water as possible.
