Brown and Mild question

Hope someone can help.

I was talking to my dad earlier and reminising (sp??) about the past and he told me he used to drink brown and mild and he could really do with some.

Now my question is what is it? (only know its a beer) and does anyone know where I can get some?

I used to play in a band in the london east end pubs in the 60.s. in one pub, after they closed at night, the staff tipped all the brown ale dregs out of any glasses left with brown beer in down a pipe into the mild barrel. After seeing that I started drinking bottled beers.
