The cd drawer on my computer has gradually over a period become non-opening and doesn't open at all now. Any idea how I can overcome this. It makes an attempt to open, but then doesn't! I do not know how to cure this problem. Thanks for any help.
The difference between the two is the connection on the rear if you look through the pictures on the above links both show the rear so you can compare with the existing drive.
I concur. Drives are not that expensive and you can get a later, possibly faster model. Sorting the mechanics of your present one would be a pain, but feel free to hack at it if you wish.
Thank you all, as usual very helpful info. I have a new computer - I hate Windows 7 - but the computer in question which is older and slower I have retained purely because I need to use older programmes which cannot be used on the later computer. The facility Windows 7 has which can deal with older programmes just doesn't do so!!!
ps I have bashed the eject so many times that I think it has finally retaliated!
It seems that the time has come to invest in a new CD drive but in the meantime, there is a small hole in the front door of the existing drive and you can open the drive by poking a straightened paper clip into the hole.
Hope this helps.
