I had a kidney transpant 2/9/11, about 3 weeks after I sent a thank you card to the boys parents. Do I send a Christmas card bearing in mind their son only died in September? Not sure what to do.

You are certain your kidney was from a cadaveric donor?

In answer to your question, leave it be. If this is their first Christmas without son, they may not even put decs up. Why would they want dozens of seasons greetings landing on their doormat?
If they want to contact you, they will............
No SC, I am quite sure they won't want a "Merry Christmas" card. Sadly, I doubt that they'll want a "Merry Christmas" card for a very long time.

However, there are cards especially made for folk who are grieving at Christmas, or who have been recently bereaved. I know, because I bought one for a friend whose mum died on 8th December.

These cards portray heartfelt sentiments other than the "Merry Christmas" variety (thank the Lord - I can't imagine anything worse than being bereaved and receiving a "Merry Christmas" card).
I actually can think of a worse one in my opinion and that would be receiving a card designed especially for a bereaved person. There are loads of tasteful cards around with no words and simple pictures or just put pen to paper.

You are encoraged to send a thank you card, afterall their relative's selflessness has allowed you to live. Its all done in my hospital via the renal transplant charge nurse so only he has their details. They are too upset to hear from me again I think.
I would leave it for now
Agree with all previous answers - just amazed that this is probably the first time I can remember all answers being in agreement on AB!
I can't remember the exact wording on the card I bought, it was a religious
scene with a simple "Thinking of you with heartfelt wishes at this special time of the year"......or something very basic like that.
no, please don't send this, they want to move on and grieve in their own personal space...... the thank you card was lovely, but leave it now...hope you are better though.x

Noooooo.....if this was Mercia she'd have it sauteed with a nice Chianti, surely?

(So sorry CS, that was out of order. And Triggs....you is baaaaaaad).
I found a nice Christmas card with just the words "to show we are thinking of you" inside to send to an elderly friend who lost his wife this year. Maybe that would be appreciated instead of a normal Christmas card.
