Getting anti-virus software

I've just switched on my computer, and I have a message telling me that my computer is in danger of a Trojan (I'm
posting this from my iPhone). I've found another anti virus (Avast) and am about to buy this but how do I transfer this to my computer?

"in danger of", so your PC is not actually infected yet then ?
If you buy off the Net then downloading the application would be favourite. But I'm sure the instructions will be on the web-site of the seller. Once got you install.
Be aware there are web based scans you can do if you wish. I've tried here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/ a few times

In the future if you are worried that your computer maybe infected download Malwarebytes and run this programme, (it is free and highly recommended) it will find any Trojans , (it is not an anti virus programme )also If you are not happy with AVG. Avast do an excellent free antivirus which I can recommend, I personally like it better that AVG which I found slowed my computer down. As stated the message says "in danger of" does not state is infected probably a pop up trying to sell you an antivirus or something similar.

You may already be running an anti virus program so it is bad to put a second anti virus program on (AVG or any other program).
Beware that there are lots of scams out there that "pretend" you have a security problem but it is just there way of getting you to part with your money.
Open the Windows security centre (called the Action centre in Windows 7) and see what security software it says you have installed.
