Well, microwaved actually.. It's an average sized spud and an 850W oven.. how long would you give it?
The reason I ask is that I can never get it right, it's either raw or so dried out it's inedible :(
Thanks
Hi Anlyn, ive tried several times to get it right using a microwave only, with little success!....now i use a combination of 8 minutes in the micro (turn once halfway through), and then 20 mins in conventional oven....never fails!!!
About 9 minutes in total, turning over a few times. Finish off under a moderate grill (two minutes each side) for a crispy finish - much more economical than using an oven.
If I do them in the microwave, I wrap each potato in kitchen tissue, prick them first, then give them 8 mins in a 850 watt oven. Test them and give them another couple of mins if necessary. It depends on the size of the potato really.
Potatoes do 'cook' in the microwave but they don't have the flavour of ones properly baked. I always finish them in the oven or grill to crisp the skin. I usually do pretty large ones and they take up to 15 mins for the 2 at 750W. Scrambled egg can be cooked perfectly in a microwave, don't cook on full power, stir a couple of times and take it out while still fairly runny . I always do mine in the microwave and it's always perfectly creamy as it should be, I can't bear rubbery egg.
chunkles: perhaps "baked potato" is a misnomer when cooked in a microwave, but the result is a good substitute particularly when finished off under a moderate grill. And... it's much cheaper than cooking them in a conventional oven, particularly if you want only one or two.
