Do you know your neighbours?

On News24 this morning it was going into the fact that vast swathes of us don't even know the names of our neighbours. Is neighbourly interaction good/bad/necessary? I must confess that I know only the first names of 2 of the neighbours in the whole street!

This depends on lots of things including your age, where you live, the type of accomodation you live in.
I am now settled in a retirement bungalow where I will stay until I die or win the lottery!
There are 14 bungalows in a small Close and we all know each other and we always send Christmas cards and occasionally,birthday cards.
I think the reason we get on is because we are all quite similar i.e retired and with health issues which we could talk all day about!The only thing that I don't like is when someone dies and since I moved here 6 yrs ago 3 people have passed away, but then someone else comes and you make new friends again.

I know all the people in our short street, mainly retired folks , but 2 young couples , one of which has 2 young chilldren. Great to see the kiddies playing in their garden. We do all lookout for each other and the street has a good feeling.

We know most people in our street. Our immediate neighbours were a wonderful couple before they both died. She was like my second mum and he was always there to lend a hand to OH. We always helped each other out. Our new neighbours are very nice too. They keep themselves to themselves but I see the husband more as he is a porter at the hosp where I work. hes always jolly. I think it helps to get on with your neighbours if you can. It must be hell for those that dont

I have recently moved into a refurbed tower block for over 55's I am on 'greeting terms' with quite a few already and their families and carers... Redman has been staying on and off for a few months he knows nearly twice as many... I'm quite shy he will talk to anyone...

Chat to the neighbours on the right if we're in the garden. To the left they have only just moved in so I haven't seen them yet. Next door to them is my ex MIL...and four doors down to the right is my Ex's best mate. I have a few friends on the street that I've known from years before I moved here.

I'm 55 this year...and I will probably get to know my neighbours even better when I retire in June

We have lived in our house for 29 years, and have always introduced ourselves to new neighbours, either side, over the road and up the road. We have a neighbour who's a builder who has done work in several houses in the road, and when he did our front garden recently, the number of his neighbours who stopped to talk to him, now talk to us and vice versa.... we all keep an eye open for each other.
I just wish the new neighbours next door would keep the noise down tho'

We get on very well with both side neighbours. Dont chat every day, but their alway there if I needed them and visa verser. They have said a few times --
dont ever move! Would be gutted if either of these 2 neighbours moved.
