Sorry that I haven't got back sooner, but things got in the way, and I've only now seen your message. No, my wife doesn't have the problem that you mentioned. The wisdom tooth just aches and aches, not a lot and not all the time, but it still hasn't come through, even though the problem started last August. She can feel the tooth with her tongue. She hasn't had a day free of some ache or pain since last August, but the pain/ache doesn't seem to be in her glands.
Thank you, alba, for the suggestion. I'll look it up. My wife doesn't complain about her aches and pains. She's one of the old school, I suppose. Having a (healthy) tooth - with roots that grow sideways - extracted at the dental hospital reduced her to tears, but that is something exceptional for her. Normally she just 'gets on with it', as she puts it.
Mission accomplished, alba. Bonjela Gel bought. Shall report back, probably tomorrow, to give the gel time to do its stuff. Just in case anyone else is thinking of trying Bonjela, please note:
there is an Adult version as well as the teething gel version. Both packets look similar, so ensure that you don't buy the Adult version. That is for mouth ulcers that are caused by rubbing, from dentures, braces, and so on. That isn't what my wife has got, so it's the teething gel (15 grams for £2.50 in Tesco) that's needed for wisdom teeth. Thank you once again, alba.

karenmac60, thank you for your help. We've put the teething powders on our list of treatments, so if one doesn't work, we're bound to find one that does. We have no children, so we don't know what's available as regards teething troubles. It's thoughtful people such as you and alba who are bringing us up to date!
Final report on Mrs. BB's wisdom tooth:
bonjela teething gel seems to be good stuff. My wife says it has eased her jaw ache, so she will continue to use it.
tinkerbell23: my wife's experience shows that it isn't only young people who have problems with wisdom teeth coming through. A visit to your dentist would no doubt reveal what's causing your tooth to rub the inside of your mouth.
lilacben: I hope that you can find some relief soon from your pain. It doesn't sound quite like what my wife has, so perhaps an x-ray at the dentist's would show the cause? Best of luck.
albaqwerty: thank you once again for your helpful advice and your kind words. My wife is very grateful to you for your concern.
karenmac60: thanks to you, also, for your advice. My wife says that she had no idea that there were such caring people out there, as those who have offered advice on AB.
Thank you all.
