There's one on the High Street, down past the bargate, away from the main shopping area, which has the awful pun based name:  The King and Thai.

Despite the name it does do really very good food. We went a couple of times for work evenings out and were all happy to go back again.

There's also the Thai Cafe in Commercial Road, opposite The Mayflower.  Fantastic food, plus they allow you to take your own wine (from memory, think they make a small corkage charge).
There's also the Taste of Thailand which is in Castle Way behind Burger King by the Bargate. Out of the three I would definitely go with the Thai Cafe though!

BTW - Lillabet, it's actually called the King and I!

Honestly - to check the name I looked on yell and it is listed as The King and Thai. Of the three it is my favourite. But I very much like the Thai Cafe too.
Quite right Lillabet, i just looked their phone number up because all this talk of thai food has made me want to go there! Yell.com say king and thai, touchsouthampton says king and i. Apparently they do the bring your own wine thingy too - didn't realise last time i went there!

There's one in Romsey, it's just off Bell Street...

thanks for your answers, i went to the king and i, wasn't too impressed to be honest, think i'll try the thai cafe next week.

NEVER EAT in the The King and I Thai in Southampton.

I went here with my girlfriend last Saturday night, after being impressed with their 10 meal deal sign on the outside of the building (a starter and a main course for 10).

After sitting down we noticed inside the menu that this offer did not apply at weekends.  After explaining to the waiter we only really wanted to eat in this restuarant becuase of the 10 deal, he told us he would let it go, and offered us the said deal.  What a nice man we thought!  We ordered a bottle of red wine.

When he arrived with the wine, and had opened the bottle, he then explained to us the 10 deal did not include starters!  WHAT?!  This means this "deal" entitles us to ONE MAIN course for 10!  Many of the courses were about 7, meaning this "deal" means we have to pay 3 extra!

Obviously unimpressed with this, we got up to leave.  Whilst putting my coat on, I asked the waiter (who I think was also the manager) what his name was, and he outright refused to tell me, clearly knowing he was trying to take advantage of us, and didn't want us to make a fool of him in the media.

Look out for this waiter/manager guy.  He is a confidence trickster and is not to be trusted.  He deliberately waited until he opened out bottle of wine before telling us the cost of the meal had dramatically increased.

Avoid.

I have been eating in The King And I regularly for about a year and have always found it to be really authentic and very good quality. Plus if you go on a Saturday night, they usually have thai dancing which I havent seen elsewhere
