Hello
I've got the grid filled in.
From earlier posts I have found out that 21 & 25 across are the first two names of the person I need.
With 6D & 7D I think I've got the correct extra word
With 24D & 35D I have 'S' & 'G' which I presume are right.
So, for me, I'm progressing well!
But I can't find the author of the saying or the saying.
Could some nice person give me a hint or two?
Thanks in advance

Hi JURCZY
Well I've removed the letters and I'm just left with odd squiggles!
I've removed the ammount of the larger number.
Do we need to remove the smaller ammount as well do you think?
I'm just baffled!
Got all the clever stuff - I agree it's a considerable feat of grid construction - but annoyingly I can't decide which of two (to me) equally good answers to 27D to use. The ambiguity is in the initial letter. The earlier (alphabetical) possibility isn't in BRB in this singular form, so I suppose it starts with T, but either way I can't parse the clue to my satisfaction. If it does indeed start with T what is "grass" doing? If with the other letter shouldn't there be an indication that the answer isn't in BRB but is somewhere else (if indeed it is). Annoying to be held up in such a silly place having got what appears to be the difficult stuff. Guidance welcome!

Hi Jockie
Sorry to be thick but what is BRB?
Big Red Book, ie Chambers (an abbreviation much in use on this site!).
Jurczy

The "grass" is a drugs reference. Ripper: you should have deleted 37 letters in all, 4 of one and 33 of another. Then swivel the resulting grid 45 degrees or so...very clever construction !
Sorry, meant Jockie
Jackie - re 29 D. I think the answer is the version beginning with T. The first three letters reversed could be the reference to 'grass'.
27d; "Cut" is the definition ~ the answer begins with T.
Doh!
