christening a baby

i am writing this here cause i'm not brave enough to post in r&s!
My husband would like our daughter christened in our local village church. On investigating the website it says that the godparents must hhave been baptised themselves (which i suppose makes sense) One of the people who we would like as a godparent, and would trust p's moral guidance to has not been christened themselves (and in fact as far as i know doesn't believe in god)
Do you reckon there is any way round this with the church? i want to get ideas before i put it to them.
I realise how ridiculous it sounds, wanting a godparent that doesn't believe in god, but i would like this person to have some sort of status in her life, other than "mum's friend"
Any ideas (that don't involve lambasting me for being hypocritcal)?

But I would have thought the idea of a god parent was to be some one of good morals who would be a "role model" to help the parents in the moral upbringing of the child.
The god parents of my children were such ones. Not that they helped in anyway as they have not kept in touch so really had no influence on them anyway.
Just my view.

I have never heard naomi ever opine that people should not baptise their children or, indeed, practice any other ritual of their faith, whatever she thinks of such things herself.
Even I, a guy who thinks that all religious belief is absurd and a betrayal of the intellect that evolution has given us, would not try to lay down what religionists should or should not do.
So why, bedknobs, do you think you needed to be brave to post your question in R&S?
(PS: I was also asked to be godfather by a mother who knew all about my atheism. I found the request odd and politely declined, though I did afterwards remember the lad on his birthdays and at Christmas.)
