Fake email from uk payments on iPad
4 Answers
Just had a definite scam email from uk payments saying a payment has been cancelled. I know it's fake as I went on the actual uk payments website and top of the list of latest news is fake scam emails and the example was exactly like the one sent to me. I checked it on my iPad.
It's been deleted now but after reading about the scam on the legitimate website it said delete ( which I was going to do anyway) and run a virus scan ASAP.
My question is ' will my ipad be infected even though I didn't open any links in the email, just opened the actual email itself as I was curious as to what it could be. There is no way of running a virus scan on this device.
Thanks

The number of these seems to be increasing. I'm not convinced that banks, HMRC etc try that hard to close them down as they simply pop up again somewhere else.
I bet very few phishers, if any, ever get traced and prosecuted.

Thanks methyl.
Yes almost all of my spam is filtered out by my ISP and goes in my spam box. I still need to look in there though because occasionally stuff I need goes to spam too- eg Tesco clubcard voucher deals.
It's good to see some spammers are being prosecuted but I wonder whether they are really only catching a drop in the ocean. My spam boxes have at least six a day about non existent bank accounts, tax refunds and paypal account problems and now I'm also getting non-existent mail order account phishing emails.
