hi everyone. when i tried getting on my bike this morning, my back 'went'. i am now sat on my floor with excruciating pain in the lumbar region. i have never had pain here before (but i have back problems as i broke my neck as a teenager - usually that pain is between my shoulder blades). i am stuck on my living room floor in agony (and i have a fentanyl patch on, and taken co-codamol, tramadol, meloxicam and pregabalin at 8am). what should i do? actually, i have just managed to crawl on my sofa (so my bum doesn't hurt as i have also broken my coccyx in the past too). please help, i am in agony! x x x

@lcg76 My concerns over your daily cocktail of medication has obviously caused you stress so I apologise for that. However, I was making an observation based on your post about your bad back. Now I have researched your past posts I realise you do indeed have physical and mental issues and as you indeed pointed out, are not dead yet, so are obviously controlling your various medical conditions as appropriate. I hope your back gets better soon.
If I may interject.
Mags' posts may well have been prompted by concern about the amount of pills you have taken for (what she thought) was simply a back injury sustained at home. I too though it sounded excessive but I am not familiar with the drugs that you listed so didnt raise the issue.
Obviously you are not going to list your medical history every time you put a post on AB but I certainly didnt know why or what you taking this medication for as the only condition mentioned was the back injury.
That said, I genuinely hope the back eases and you didnt deserve perhaps such interrogation at this particular time, more so some words of encouragement.

hi jd.....yes perhaps i am sensitive about my disabilities and medication (sorry mags!). some people quite obviously think i like the drugs i take and use them in order to get high; when in actual fact the painkillers, fentanyl patch and psychiatric drugs i take leave me feeling awful all of the time, i struggle to stay awake and i spend every spare hour of my life asleep.
my pain is always still there and is really hard to deal with - the pain clinic here is absolutely rubbish; and it seems you have to suffer extreme pain for a sustained period before they reassess your treatment and do something about it (which wouldn't happen in other branches of medicine). so.....i am always in a lot of pain, struggle through my working day and then fall asleep the minute i get home. not really a pleasant life, but it's the only one i have.
doing my back in this morning has been awful.....any 'extra' pain i experience (whether breaking a toe, banging my leg against my bed when i get up, a migraine etc.) is not covered by the meds i regularly take. so i have a high pain threshold and am concerned that my back hurts so much. i went up stairs to the loo a while ago and it took me 1/2 hour to get up and down the stairs. sitting bolt upright on my sofa with a hot water bottle and lots of comfy pillows is also good.....but boring.
i am still going to wait and see how my back goes and the pain levels going on.....i will probably call the gp tomorrow for further advice etc. or deal with an emergency if necessary. thank you for your kind words, i do appreciate them....even if that doesn't come across all the time x

just seen your question... osteopaths deal in manipulation, expecially of the spine but also all sort of soft tissue work. I've had sharp back aches that seem to have derived from minuscule rotation of the vertebrae, with the result that nerves get pinched. A good osteopathmight either nudge everything back into line, or just massage you enough to loosen you up so your body can sort itself out.
I've alway sworn by them, though they come in all sorts (the ones that just massage the cranium are useless to me, but others are happy with them). The reason I use them is that GPs are basically rubbish with back pain - 600mg ibuprofen and monitor the situation is the best they can offer (sorry Sqad) with maybe physio in the longer term
Osteopaths specialise in back pain. Chiropractors too, but they are rougher and seem to try to cure everything by crunching your spine, which isn't always called for.

ok, thanks jno. i'm glad to report my pain has eased a little through the day and i am now lying down on my sofa with a hot water bottle, huge furry blanket and lots of soft pillows. i feel a bit spaced out on the meds, but they are working in combination. thank you again for your support and advice....i will make an appointment at my gp's tomorrow as i reckon i will actually be able to get there! we'll see what he says....x
