Travelling north on the M1 in Sheffield area I saw a massive castle up on a hill to the right. There are brown signs in the area to 3 places of interest - Chatsworth (which it isn't), Bolsover Castle and something Hall. Can anyone tell me which it is? You can only see it for a short while but it's very impressive.

Hardwick Hall, more glass than wall.
Oh, that takes me back!
I did my first teaching practice in Bolsover (which, BTW, is in Derbyshire, not Yorkshire)

There are actually two houses. "Old hall" looks like a castle but Bess changed her mind before it was finished and had the "New Hall" built behind it. Some of Harry Potter was filmed there.

Thank you both although I'm confused now after googling images as to whether it's Bolsover Castle or Hardwick Hall. It's quite sprawling with a large keep type building on the left and lots of turreted areas to the right (which suggests it's Bolsover Castle). Remember only seen from a speeding Mway car!

going North from Nottingham, Hardwick is the first one set in a lot of trees followed by Bolsover which is a paler shade and higher up on a hill.
just read your answer, I am sure it will b Bolsover Castle.
