Hi All

Wonder if anyone can help please?

Over the last couple of days the fan in our 4/5 year old laptop has been really noisy.

I have made sure it is clean (as much as you can in a laptop anyway).

Is it noisy because it is on its last legs? Or just noisy because it is old?

It is really annoying but if nothing to worry about I will learn to live with it!!

Thanks for any help in advance.

Impossible to say from your description really.

If it's loud but sounds smooth then it's probably just blocked up with dust so the fan has to run flat out to try and keep it cool.

If it's loud and sounds rough the bearings in the fan are probably worn out and it needs a new fan.

Thanks guys.

It sounds rough when first turned on but then it calms down and runs smoothly but is noisy.

I can't really afford to take it anywhere, so will try to clean myself.

Is it a simple thing to remove the back?
Don't bother taking it apart yet.

Get an Air duster

Figure out which way the air normally blows through the laptop and then give a decent blast of air in the opposite direction, before doing it though stick a cocktail stick into the vent in the bottom where you can see the fan to stop the fan spinning.

you'll probably be shocked at the amount of dust that comes out.
