In Britain we may not have anything like India's brutality to women, thank goodness, but then I don't think India's teachers have to endure the same treatment as our teachers apparently do.

AOG, i did say that i never heard or saw an assault on a teacher, that of course was in my schools, it could have happened in others. We had respect for our teachers, and wouldn't have dreamt of hitting one.

My addition to my question, "Why is this" that being " It never happened in my day" was obviously a sarcastic addition aimed at past ABers who had questioned the fact that some things are more serious now than in the 40s & 50s.

Obviously just like you these assaults on teachers never happened in any school that I attended, but one would be a complete fool to say some might never happened in other venues of learning, how would anyone know that unless they toured every school in the land, but what I can say is I never heard of any.

But 900 attacks in a year on teachers in London alone, 'NO', not by any stretch of the imagination, hence why are they just beginning to show concern?

I recall a teacher in my Grammar School, a huge man who walked around in his gown very very quietly, no-one ever made a false move in his classes, the story was that he had been a commando in WW2 and was trained to kill if he heard an unexpected noise! Meeting up with him years later in the pub, he told us that it had taken him years to cultivate that story.
As far a school behaviour, teachers these days have no sanctions, parents can refuse detentions either break or after school, lines are thought to be dehumanising and a teacher who raises their voice at the little dears is apparently abusing them as they may be scared.

The notion that just because someone has lived a long time, that means they have 'more experience of life' is clearly a deeply flawed and rather dangerous idea.

Even more so if you extrapolate that to a view that their 'reasoning and views' should be taken 'on-board' even when you can see fault in them.

Unless of course you are one of the 'old folk' and simply want an easy way to exert control and avoid awkward questions and challenges.

You still have the big issue to face aog, that even if we accept that having young people who are controlled and subservient is a good thing, you also have to accept the other things that went with it; people too easily cowed by those who abused positions of authority, people unwilling or inexperienced in challenging the incompetence, arrogance or deceptions of the political establishment who steered the people of this country from one bloodbath and economic decline to another.

Return to the disciplines and apparent 'civilisation' of the past?

Never heard of 'The Elders' a system that supported all tribes of humans from the beginnings of their existence on earth, and still do in certain communities.

Not a feature of the more advanced or creative human societies aog

Rather it is a method of governance that tends to entrench tradition and existing ways of doing things rather than innovating, inventing and creating which tend to challenge the status quo.

I quite like the idea of the refocus cubicles but I feel the schools are missing a trick.
Put books in there. Science, maths, literature and art. Boredom will eventually draw them to the books and voila, an interest is kindled.
