Don't buy HMV vouchers for Christmas, and if you have any spend them soon.

They are not long of this world. When they go into administration, the vouchers will probably be worthless.

They have been known to be struggling for ages, as their core sales (CDs and DVDs) are dwindling. Downloads, internet sales and supermarkets have hit them badly.

The same sort of news that was heard leading up to the death of Woolworths and Comet.

Usually the administrators do not honour gift vouchers, saying you are effectively a creditor. However in Comet's case I think they did change their minds and honour the gift vouchers.
I'm sad to hear this as I have been a customer for years and their on line orders are very reasonable - perhaps if their stores were as reasonable they might be doing better? The recent Led Zep release was about £4 cheaper in Asda.
If anyone wants to buy HMV gift vouchers (but without any worry about their validity) they simply need to go to their local post office and buy a One4All Gift Card, which is valid at HMV but also at all of these other stores:

HMV is among a number of High Street stores which have been 'close to the brink' for a number of years. Some, like Comet, have already gone under. Others, like W H Smith, have managed to survive by restructuring their sales operations (including ceasing to sell the type of stuff which HMV trades in) and by increasing online sales. But firms like HMV and Mothercare are likely to disappear from the High Street fairly soon.
Bet everyone holding vouchers wishes they had read this post .... some good advice available on answerbank
