Malta

Off to the above at the end of next month - what can I expect the temperature to be? and has any one any tips for when we are there?

Malta will be ok when its finished, the people are great.

About 16/17 degrees. Haven't been for a few years and were only there a week but the bus service was good so you can get around easily. We did quite a bit of walking, visited Valetta, went over to Gozo for the day.

If you get chance go to Tarxien. It's a collection of temples, similar to Stonehenge, but smaller. Entry charge is very cheap and you can walk round and touch the temples, unlike Stonehenge. Fascinating place if you're into that sort of thing.

I go there a lot at different times of the year.......End of February can be quite pleasant if you're lucky.....16C to even a balmy 20C +...but sometimes can be a bit windy at that time.

Places to visit.......if you like shopping Valletta, which has a daily market too, and St Julians/Sliema are good too. Eating out, try the fish dishes as superb....Being just 50 miles away south of Sicily, a very strong Italian connection there so try the pasta courses too which are very tasty. You will, of course, need to go on a slighty diet when you return home lol.

Also if you catch the ferry over to Gozo, hire a car on Malta as in for treat....some lovely places to visit there..if you dive, which I do in the summer if there, some brilliant dive sites and wrecks..... would recommend to visit Azur Window at Dwejra Bay in Gozo, as it's lovely there and picturesque, they filmed the original Clash Of The Titans there. along with Force 10 from Naverone, parts Of Popeye, Troy and The Count of Monte Cristo on nearby Comino Island, which you can also visit at the Lagoon.

Back on Malta, Blue Grotto is a must and you can go out on a boat to see the caves.

A trip to Gozo is definitely worthwhile.

Sliema is the main tourist resort, while Valletta is where the locals shop.

Love it, one of our favourite places. If the tour buses are running, it's worth taking the island trips, just to get the feel of the island (and Gozo, too). If you can, take the 2 hour trip round the harbour in Valetta - it's amazing, and huge.

The history on the islands took us completely by surprise, the temples, everything. We love it. We're back there in May.

Public transport is OK, we use the buses all the time - and the last time we were there, 20 euros was the standard maximum taxi fare (not sure if that's the same now, but it seemed reasonable then for the size of the island!)
