Hi can anyone tell me why my Ford escort 1400 "M" reg. has lost power especially when travelling uphill, I have difficulty in gaining any speed, even when I give it the full throttle it lacks power. I am lucky to gain 40 miles per hour in third gear.

thanks

maybe a weak clutch, mine went like that just before the clutch started slipping, its still slipping now 3 month later,a tune up is cheap enough to make sure you got good performance,
if the engine is racing and the car doesn't pick up speed then your clutch centreplate is shot fit a full 3 piece assembly and get a decent kit - not worth putting in a cheapy and having to haul it out again
Could be many things and depends on whether all cylinders are firing or not. It only needs one faulty plug or loose plug lead to do this. If you are not proficient to do this yourself then put it in a local garage.
