Woodland here is full of snowdrops. There's also a large spread of aconites,but not as big as in the past. However,local gardens have acquired aconites, all in recent years. Doesn't take a Sherlock Holmes to work out where these came from; the patches in the wood which are now bare of aconites are nearest the houses !
Phrases like 'a false dawn' or 'the calm before the storm' seem to come to mind here. I predict (based upon nothing more than gut instinct and natural pessimism) that, despite the current brief mild spell, we'll all be snowed in throughout much of February.
