My husband is just having tests at the moment for the above. He is 68. What are the blood sugar ranges for diabetics - i.e., non diabetics, Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics , the nurse at the surgery is very vague and keeps telling him it is high. Some advice please.

Well as he is 68 yrs old, he will almost certainly be a Type 2 diabetic.
If he is on medication, then try, just try to keep his blood sugar levels at 7 or below....that is pre meal blood sugars.
Just read your post again...Buenchico's answer is more appropriate to your post.

Thanks Sqad and Chris - his friend who is Type 2 lent him his machine to use - strips you put in a little machine to read - the fasting one was 6.8 the one, two hours after a meal was 10.6. One more question, how accurate are the strip readers?
Pretty accurate usually, although they can have errors. Helpful article linked to - its US in origin, but it is applicable here.
