Does anyone know how much roughly it costs to travel from Candolim in Goa on public transport, (trains or buses) to Kerala?
Also, I know to get rupees there but what can you live on per day fairly cheaply?

Hi lacuna some useful sites for travel round India are www. seat61. com , the irtc which is the Indian railway site (you can pre-book your seat on line with them, its a hassle but well worth it) also indiamike. com has a wealth of info from other travellers. I haven`t been to Goa but it will be peanuts. I have used buses in India and they are dirt cheap. If I were you and I could afford it, I would get a car with a driver. That might be your best bet (have you ever been on a bus in India? LOL). As far as living per day is concerned, you could easily do it for £5 per day after accommodation costs
The last time Trish and I were in Goa,in 2000, we went to visit some friends who were stopping in a hotel about 40k down the coast. We hired a car and driver for the day who took us there, waited all day till we were ready to return then took us back to our hotel by a different route so we'd see more of the country, all for a thousand rupees including a large tip the exchange rate at that time was about 75 to the pound. I don't know what it's like now but at that time it seemed hard to spend money, in fact Trish has often commented that we spent more in an hour and a half in the duty free at Abu Dhabi then we did in four weeks in Goa, and I can't see it having changed all that much.

As for daily cost, don't know about Goa but in Rajasthan last october we averaged probably £12-£15 per night for b&b for 2 people, and ate for around £5 each max per day
