Why Do Vegetarians Get Laughed At And Mocked So Much?
123 Answers
I am human. I will breed you and indescriminantly kill you for my food. I will also select the ones that feel nice, kill you and make you into my clothes. When I feel lonely or need to seek solace in my terrible life I will use you for your companionship and convince myself you love me.
Now I get laughed at a lot by turning to vegetarianism more and more but does the above not sound just pathetic?

I always laugh at the vegetarians who state all the moral filled reasons why they are vegetarians. ..then go and eat a kebab

honey dip ... i agree with others - while i commend you for trying, and even being 'half' veggie is better than nothing, your comments in your op, whilst you are correct, are not the sort of thing you should start saying to your friends or colleagues etc - because they absolutely will defend themselves and laugh at you... and there is more of them obviously.
and if you are saying things like that - then having a kebab then id laugh too.
vegetarianism is big business now so i do not believe you get laughed at just for that - clearly no-one else does - so you must be doing something - or you just have some nasty people in your life.
i only ever talk about the ins and outs of being a veggie if i'm challenged about it.
i do not moan or preach or even comment unless they start being offensive to me.
i have even had meat eaters apologise to me for eating meat in my company etc, they are respectful about it - and i always say its not a problem... i don't particularly like it of course - but it does not upset me.

regarding the fake meat thing - its just because its an extra source of food - it fills a gap a meatless diet leaves - it means you can still cook 'old favourites' - because you can simply replace the meat with the veggie version - you cannot make spagbol without some kind of bol ... and a pile of veg would just be, well a veg pasta dish.
you cant make a burger without a patty - so they made one
you can make something other than cheese or egg sandwiches
although some veggies really miss meat and wish they could eat it, many don't at all.
Most don't eat it and think "oh god i miss bacon" and are trying to quell a ravenous desire for flesh.
veggies simply don't want to kill an animal to eat it - and quorn isn't an animal.
i also don't think many veggies would say meat actually 'tastes' bad either - its just the thought of it being flesh and it being killed that they hate...
i never hated the 'taste' of it... just the feel of it, the idea of it and the killing.
plus its a way to flavour eat textured vegetable protein or quorn in a more familiar way ... rather then just random lumps of tasteless 'stuff' ... theres no point in making it taste like vegetables is there?!
i also think its a way to try to get meat eaters to at least try it now and again
interestingly the one person who has laughed at me and ridiculed me most is my brother - totally anti veggie - and once i gave him some veggie sausage roll ... from sayers - and he said it was actually tastier than the meat one ... i was gobsmacked that he even tried it, let alone liked it, and then to say it was better! wow

joko thanks for the answer and how true. However I stay away from quorn as Its so processed its as bad for you as a real sausage right??
If people actually came in contact with an animals death it would certainly change a few people to Veggies. But I do know that one day the killing of animals will be considered the same as killing a human. I or my kids will not be alive that day and I will not force my kids into vegetarianism. I will however teach them as much as possible so hopefully they will not be so narrow minded so as to not respect life. Each living this has a life and although it may be natural to kill animals occasionally it is not balanced to farm them in horrible conditions and take their life when they are fat enough. It will change eventually.
