I had exactly the same thing about ten years ago and I tried to get out of bed and just fell over. Have you had a sharp blow to the head at all that you may have forgotten ? I was in a car crash some months before and I am sure it was connected. Anyway, my doctor diagnosed labyrinthitis and I can't remember if I had medication or not, but the good news is and hopefully yours will be the same, that it cleared up and I have never had a repeat episode since.
