Would a reasonable wife be offended?
Les us assume a wife tells her husband (sitting in an armchair, facing telly) that she wants to talk to him. He answers "just make your point quickly". If you were the wife, would you be cross?

(this is not ment to be derogatory to either sex)
Men however seem to feel that if something is important, it's importance shouldnt be clouded by insignificant points either side of the situation. Its one of the biggest causes of breakdown in communication between men and women in my book.
Heres how it normally goes.....
she says - 'honey i was talking to this girl at work today and she said she thinks that......'
he's thinking - oh my god not again, why doesnt she understand this pointless drivel about other people bores me stupid.
She says - '........your not listening to me are you? you dont care about me anymore do you?'
he's thinking - oh sh!t, she must have said something important. ive screwed up again. why does she always do this when Star Trek is on.
She's thinking - I wish he would talk to me, whenever he watches Star Trek i get bored and want to talk about the importantance of our relationship.
Have you ever heard of the term 'man bubble'? I came across the term at xmas whilst reading a man management book that had been given as a gift. Apparently men like to disapear into a bubble every now and then, and do their own thing TV, DIY, and so on. Anyway it's bad news if you interupt the 'bubble' time because this is where they take time out - I guess it's the equivilant of a woman's bubble bath and candles time. Rather than cause yourself upset, I would just leave him if he is non responsive - perhaps just say to him when you have a minute can we have a chat (in a nice way of course!) and then go off and do something nice for yourself. 'If you can't beat them, join them' I would say.
