Well initally I thought it was hayfever so have been self medicating - but last night it was really bad felt like there was grit in it - so did eye bath, drops the lot nothing worked - started getting really sore - ended up going to bed with a cold flannel on my eye!! this morning there was residue on my cheek and my eye is swollen!!

Also on the inside of my upper lid there appears to be spots.

Sounds like a bacterial conjunctivitis.
Ibuprofen 600mgms in one go........3 times a day if necessary and chloromycetin eye ointment which you should be able to get OTC.
Meticulous hygiene and keep bathing it.

Sqad, I don't like to bother the doctor if I don't need to hence my question about the nurse.

should I see the doctor? I have just come into work and they are saying it is contagious and that I should not be here as it is a risk to my colleagues, what are you thoughts on this?

Sandy - I have never heard of that.
FGT, I wasn't suggesting it would help you. It was used donkeys years ago to treat styes.

Helen....naaah! Only contagious by direct contact...washing your hands ect should be all that is necessary and of course not sharing a towel.

Got medicated eyedrops from pharmacy, and an appointment for tomorrow eve that i can cancel if not needed.
