Just recently Ive been getting more spots than usual, and they crop up with no warning, I think its possibly to do with central heating over drying my skin so I then try to over compensate with extra moisturiser.

It seems a know win situation! Dry, flaky skin or spots, any advise would be greatly appreciated along with any spot busting tips!!

Not knowing you age - I will assume you are past the teenage years.

Dont keep your heating on overnight and leave a window open. You are more than cosy in your bed.Think what people did before central heating.

You cant over moisturise - so IMO you should maintain that.

Finally - could you be experiencing a hormonal imbalance? Not knowing your age (but you do so it doesnt matter) Are you eating ,what I would refer to as a good pure diet - not greasy etc - as well know that can trigger a poor complexion.

My bet is you have had the heating on 24/7.I have put mine off during the day and just put a fleece on as I hate dry heat and so does my skin!

Errrr, holding my hands up at the start, I am a bloke so I am expecting to be told I dont know what I am talking about, anyway here goes,.........firstly spots are simply a manefestation of clogged skin pores. Having dry skin dueto being in a warm environment will not cause this. I would say that you certainly can over moistureise, leaving aside for a moment the actual merits of these products in the first place, using excessive amounts of goo on your skin will only lead to clogging up you pores even more, thus increasing your chance of getting spots. A good skin cleaning regeime is what you need, plus the consumption of plenty of simple water to keep your body hydrated. For simple emergency treatment of a spot, neat tea tree oil dabbed on it will make it shrivel dramatically overnight.

Good advice Imp - for a mere man:)

I still think that you cant over moisturise because that doesnt actually glog up your pores and it does help with dry skin.My husband works outside and he moisturises day and night because I noticed the difference in his skin (weatherbeaten). He still wont admit to it to others tho - strange.

I mentioned age because of hormones.

Youre advice was really sound tho - sorry lola wont reply again seems like I'm hi-jacking your thread:)

Well during the day I work in a stuffy office which is the main problem, shared with other people so I can't just turn the heating off as I please you see and we do not have any heating on over night.

I do use tea tree in the form of a gel which I apply when I feel a spot on its way, this usually does the trick no probs but the spots seem to just appear from nowhere.

What does IMO stand for?

Oh & Im in my twenties! And I do have a good skin care routine and I usually suffer from spots very rarely.

I have really dry skin lately due to a thyroid problem which is being sorted out ,which is beside the point, but I have found using Aqueous cream really helps.I use it in the bath and shower.Although it doesn't lather ..it is an emollient which leaves the skin soft and contains no lanolin.Avoid stuff with lanolin. Central heating dries the skin too .I find being wrapped up in layers of clothing makes the skin itchy and spotty .I still swear by my Mums old fashioned skin care regime which is ... every day ..morning and night .. I smear my face with a cream..I use Aqueous cream or Boots Cold Cream...take a clean face flannel....wring it out in as hot a water as you can bear and clean all the cream off. Splash your face afterwards with cold water and then a good moisturiser.Make sure the flannel is a bit rough ..this sloughs off all the dead skin.
Witch astringent is very good too ..after cleansing .It has witch hazel which closes the pores and helps to dry up any spots.Or you can get witch hazel in a tube to dab on the spots and dry them up.
And by the way...I am not young any more ....but still get the odd spot ... !!

IMO - In my opinion.

Good advice - hope it helps!

I am in my twenties and still get spots, but I recently found a miracle cure. I assume you cleanse, tone (with witch hazel) and moisturise, but you should also exfoliate three times a week - if you have skin prone to spots. Anyway, miracle cure is L'Oreal Pure Zone Deep Exfoliating Gel Wash. It contains salicylic acid (sounds dodgy) which kills the bacteria on your skin. Please try it. Also drink lots of water and take a probiotic everyday and get your essential fatty acids - in oily fish, nuts, seeds and olive oil. I hope this works :)

Hi Lola, I find that some moisturisers make my skin more spotty. I have tried many different ones. Even expensive ones dont appear to be any better.

I prefer moisturisers in containers that you dont stick your finger in because I think no matter how well one washes hands that bacteria may build up in the cream over time. I avoid the thicker creams as I think these are more likely to clog the pores.

I started getting spots around my hair line and deduced that it was occuring when i used rich hair conditioners. I rarely get spots, just an odd one due to hormonal reasons, around the T zone. Unfortunately those type of spots cant be avoided. Do post -menopausal women get spots I wonder?

Toothpaste!

Dab a bit on the offending plook before you go to bed and it should dry up overnight. Just don't forget to wash the manky remnants of Colgate off your face before you go into work!
