she should have known that as a celebrity they would shred her and her lifestyle

There seems to be a common mistake being made here.
Once she decided to make a complaint to the police, the decision to 'go ahead' wasn't nigella's. It was the CPS.
It was a criminal trial. Nigella was just a witness.
As such she would not have 'her brief'.
