The internet can be a nasty place at times. But a thread like this shows how wonderful it can be too. So much support for someone that I expect most of us will never have met. I hope you can find your way through this difficult time. So many of us have been there in one way or another, and so understand and can try to provide the help you need.
there's no real answer to your question. Painless deaths are quick ones (eg shooting yourself). The trouble is, such sudden deaths are the ones most likely to prompt an autopsy to be held, to discover just why an apparently healthy person would drop dead. So your family would almost certainly find out anyway. And they'd be broken-hearted even if they didn't.
I don't necessarily endorse ginamac's religious solution, but she's certainly right to suggest a search for phsyical/medical reasons for your problem. The Samaritans are always good, but - sorry if this is blindingly obvious - have you seen your doctor? Depression can be treated.

you say you are in a dark place,, that is nothing to the darkest most terrifying place imaginable, just my belief, ive been there many times where you are now, i cant see any light ahead of me, i cant help it, the darjness will not go away, you know ive actually locked myself away in a cupboard and cried, its called depression, i come out of it by myself, it comes and goes like a dark cloud hanging over me, give it time, fight it !!! do not give into it. if you seen what i had been through in my life you would count your lucky stars believe me, i look at my 4 year old daughter and there is no way in this world i would hurt her by killing myself, it would ruin her life !! fight it, take sunbeds, try the gym, excercise, get out more, go see friends, talk to them about it. do what you like that feels good for you whatever that may be, but most of all be patient , it will pass and fight it !!!!!!
i should also tell you this, this is only my personal expirience, other may be different, ive taken anti depressants all my life on and off, not one time have they helped me, in fact they allways , allways made me worse !! panicky, tremours, shakes, nervousness, shortness of breath, cant breathe, cant sleep. lots of research on anti depressants making people commit suicide, google it and you will see. i wish you all the very best. its a new year, make a new start ;-)
Bubbly if you have no reason to feel this dark, it must be a medical imbalance that is causing these feelings. You say yourself there is no logic to it- so do not give in to it- it is illogical! You sound depressed to me, or perhaps you have another medical problem but either way you desperately need to get it sorted and some medication. You will have lovely, bright and joyful days in the future to counteract this period- I promise.
