A dog one would be a good idea. We have had pets for therapy for years. It works because people are calmed and soothed by pets. This is an extension of the idea, is it not ?
In Antibes, France, the dog rescue is in the appropriately named rue des terriers. They provide a service. They rent out the dogs for anything from a day. So visitors or residents who feel dog deprived can take one and thus give the dog a happy time while helping the rescue's finances . That seems sensible.
As long as they stay off the tables and worktops, don't have worms or fleas and have their feet sterilized after burying their faeces it should be ......nearly hygenic.
