I'm soon to be fitted up with a brace (at 42), not for cosmetic reasons but it's a fact that if I don't I risk losing my teeth.I would like to know from those who are in the same situation if it's really embarassing as an adult and if you have problems with speaking etc. Thank you in advance

And even then it was along the lines of "Oh, you've got braces". No-one has made negative comments. I wasn't sure what people would say, if anything, but I needn't had worried. You're doing something positive about your teeth and you should be proud of that.
With regards to problems speaking - I did have fun for the first couple of weeks saying words starting with the letter F, but I did get used to the braces very quickly. I remember phoning my sister when I got home after having my braces fitted, and she said I didn't sound any different at all.

Good luck!
Thank you so much everybody, I don't feel so much of an oddity now knowing there are quite a few adult people out there with braces. I've only met one in my life!
Thank you for your help and support and especially for the website link from Sue Balon. I work with teenagers so know I'll probably get some 'stick' but as you all say , it's worth it. Thank you
