Just wondered what other folk are putting for the following question........

At the start of a game of chess, each player has the choice of how many opening moves?

I've googled it, and looked at several sites, who all supply a different, rather vague, answer. The general view seems to be that there are "dozens" or even "hundreds" of possible opening moves. I was wondering what other people have decided to put.

I had the same problem but eventually found a book which gave the number as 64. I've gone with that but I'm not totally convinced.

With your Eggheads quiz, where the picture is of a soap character are you looking for the actor's or character's name?

Big Jenny White has 20 possible moves and Black can respond with 20 moves!

White has 8 pawns that can move forward one or two squares (16 possibilities). The only piece that can move is the Knight and each has two legal moves (another 4 possiblilites). Total = 20 moves.

By the way, juliefer - A fair cop!
