I have been in citalopram for 4 months, and felt loads better, I decided not to take them for the last 6 days as I thought I didn't need them, I feel rubbish, fed up, edgy, and dizzy, how long will they take to work again after a week off them,

My son was on them. His doctor suggested he go without them to see if he really needed them. Like you, he felt bad (was going to put another word there but I'm sure the swear filter would remove it). As soon as he got them back he seemed better. Shouldn't take too long. Just get back on them.

You were probably feeling better because you were taking them. it will take a few days to get it back into your system again, I would consult your GP before coming off them, you would possibly be better to reduce the dose in stages to come off them but consult your GP first.

Thank you all, I have restarted them 20mg, I didn't think I would feel like this, what a huge mistake, I just hope they kick in soon,

as per squad.....never, ever stop psych meds suddenly, as you could have a serious relapse and discontinuation symptoms (which is the technical term for all the symptoms you have described). basically, the poor little neurons in your brain went without chemicals they had gotten used to and started to fire off a little bit wonky, but they will disappear. you will have to treat this gap as starting your meds all over again and tell your gp if there are any more issues, if you think you need a higher dose after 4 weeks or begin to feel very depressed or suicidal. nothing to feel embarrassed about - i've done it and i'm a psych nurse! it seems a good idea at the time, but unfortunately it very rarely is. good luck with things tho x
