Bergerac is long gone. Morse is dead and even Inspector Lewis is getting a bit long in the tooth.
Could we, the AB viewers, put together the perfect TV 'tec?
He needs to drive an unusual car. Bergerac, Morse, and Inspector Lindley all had nice motors. Even Colombo drove something out of the ordinary.
They need to be a thorn in the side of their superiors and a drink problem isn't out of the question.
What other foibles would they need?

I think we have a title.
He needs halitosis, severe halitosis.

All he has to do is breathe on the suspect and they crack and confess all.
One of the real cop shows in America showed a car chase. The police caught up with the criminals, but they bad guys stayed put in their car.

The cops surrounded the car - dozens of then and all armed with automatic weaponry. They were ordered out of the car 'or we will shoot. Nothing happened.

A couple of other officers arrived - the police shouted 'come out or we will release the dogs' - the two new doggy officers chucked in a few barks. The bad guys exited the car in seconds.

So Shoota we don't need guns, we need big hairy Germans (GSD).

The Detective should wear an Eye patch and have the nickname "Patch" Transport should be a Harley Davidson and also have a bit of a Lisp due to wearing a Small ring through His or Her Lip.
He should have a close friend by the name of Bernard who has a completely equipped pathology lab in the basement of his grandiose Victorian manor, and who is not untoward in exploring new methods of forensic investigation whilst at the same time disabusing existing investigators of their "stick in the mud" approach.

I just remembered another Tec who had a dog and a gormless mate, Dangerous Davies. But that was a semi comedy so probably wouldn't do as inspiration for us.
