Hi, I was watching BBC iPlayer and suddenly, without any warning whatsoever, my PC's external (audio jack) speaker system went dead. The power light is still on, so it's not a fuse. I've run an audio troubleshoot diagnostic on my PC but it says it can't find a fault. I can plug my headphones into the front socket and there is sound alright, but nothing will come out of my Creative Audio set. My PC is an AMD A-series Gigabyte Cooler Master, custom built about 2 years ago, the speaker system is a few years older. Any advice out there? I'm not one for opening the casing to check the sound card, as I wouldn't know what to look for. Is it time for a new speaker system or do I need to have someone look at my soundcard?

I'll leave the details to the experts but my first thought is to plug your speakers into another laptop/desktop to see if the fault is with them or your computer.
Delboy....this may not help....I know nothing...but I listen to the radio on iPlayer and mine did the same.....little thing was going along but no sound...

After messing around for ages I pressed a box that said...listen in pop out player....no idea what that was but I had sound...still no sound on the bit I usually listen on.....x

Thanks for the advice, but it turned out to be the speaker system. New one bought and hey presto!
If you have sound from your headphone socket on your computer your sound card is working, so I think it is your equipment that you are plugging into the computer that is faulty.
The light on the speaker system only shows there is power coming out of it's power supply, this does not show faults elsewhere.
Check all of your cables for signs of damage, if none found it is more than likely a circuit fault inside your external speaker system,,, not really worth repairing, cheaper to buy some more.
Cheers Shewy
Oh - I had this happen this morning and it was solved with a reboot, as simple as that.
