Well, its quite dark now at 16:30, and it will certainly be in a few weeks time, so I'm not sure what is wrong here ?
Oh, ah.

Ok it is a tad early maybe, but as ff mentions it won't be inappropriate much longer.

One might have thought they'd work on ambient light levels anyway. My car headlights do.

thank You Factor, Mickey, >>>>>> No meaning.
No thanks for me then?
It is dusk at 16.40 hrs, I would expect the street lights to be coming on.
More importantly, according to the BBC News this morning, all of our lights may be going out this winter ! There is a strong possibility that power supplies may fail this winter, especially if we have a long, cold winter.

We have consistently not faced up to the challenge of building more power stations in Britain, and this is not a party-political issue. People don't want wind farms or nuclear power, but still want to be able to come home from work and put the kettle on. Gas is also in danger of a supply issue.

We need to wake up and smell the coffee on this problem !

Whatever Tilly.
The reserve has gone down just 1% since last year. For sure it shows a failure by those involved to manage properly to ensure supply, but it should be fine. A reserve is still a reserve, and my heating is on gas anyway so I shouldn't freeze :-) Just see nothing left in the bank account.
Must remember to stock up on candles when I go shopping then.
Are they not automatic and a sensor makes them come on when the light level drops? Maybe not
Well that would make sense, Prudie. I'm sure that must be the case.
I thought street lights were solar, gathering power in daylight & auto lit in dark. once installed they would be self financed,
TW thought it was still light, because the lights were on. ;-/
i leave at 6 & i'm quite glad of the street lighting then esp as i park my car on the street. plenty of people around here are going/coming from work at all hours so i'm not complaining about my council tax money being used on lighting
I'd actually rather they stayed on all night. It's very very dark and a bit scary round me.
That would be some phenomenal energy collecting Tamborine.
