I often hear a single loud high note whistled in my garden but can never pinpoint it to any particular bird, (it is a bird not a workman) can anyone tell me what it is please?

It's the sub-song of a male blackbird, usually sung from the middle of a shrub or bush.

thanks that was lovely, but no what I hear is just one note as if the bird starts to sing but changes its mind, most odd.
Sometimes a chaffinch can sound like that.

well we do have nine black birds in the garden, so that seems likely, thanks all.
