Bird Nesting Materials...

When I brush my dog at this time of the year, I often poke the stripped out hair into a hedge.
Suddenly to day I noticed all the hair had all gone and had been taken by nest building birds, so its more dog brushing.

Anyone know of other useful materials what the birds might use ?

You could try feathers out of an old pillow. I've put cotton waste on a shrub & the blue tits loved it.

Well I throw out the stuff from my own hairbrush plus the hairy mats that collect on the brushes of my vacuum (which is mainly also my hair!!)

I should think that they would like that fluffy stuff from a tumble dryer filter as well.

I'll check the vacume cleaner and maybe rake out some moss from the lawn.

Well I contribute unwittingly to cosy nests because the birds just completely strip my hanging baskets of the soft fabric linings (I hate the hard cardboard liners) so happy nesting birdies!!

Just wondering - most of our pets are de-wormed/de-flead on a regular basis - how much of what is used to rid pets of internal and external parasites is taken up into the hair growth and does this affect the birds that use the discarded hair for nests?
