I think these people have behaved stupidly. Indeed, one of them at least has admitted being stupid. They will serve their sentences and then be deported.

Let that be a lesson to them to observe local traditions the next time they are abroad.

Stephen Gough has spent over 6 years in prison in England and Scotland for stripping off in public places, so Malaysia is surely considerably less draconian in their reaction.

yeh but, canary, most of stephen gough's incarceration is down to his own bloody mindedness - i mean, standing in the dock naked is just guaranteed to get you sent down for contempt, and it did. repeated breaches of asbos also not helped keep him out of jail.

i'm not sure the malaysians would be any more or less tolerant than their uk counterparts if faced with a record like mr gough's.
