OK I cleared my phone down to send it off, it had some apps on it that I now want to reestablish. The problem is that google play etc thinks the apps are already installed. Is there any way to force it to reload them? I managed to blag chrome on their and google play but I'm still stuck because I get "....device already has ..." messages! Help.

yes it is a fault with google play.ignore that it says installed(even when it is not).so just select the app on google play then click installed(this is where it should say Install not Installed).then click ok and it will send it to your phone.
Have reported this to google many times but they have still not corrected it

all I get is "no eligible devices for app install" - my phone is in the list but greyed out and the "Install" button is not available.

Have you tried downloading straight from the Internet, bypassing Google Play?

yes that's how I got google play back on there! I'd just hoped there was a simple way, I mean what if I bought a new phone? would I have all this rig marole?

Many people will have had this problem, Tora.
If you go in Google Play Store settings you are able to "clear all searches".
That may be of help, though I am not much good at technology!
