win 2000 ...mp3 bit rate is only 56k cant seem to change it!

Not too familiar with win 2000 ...am trying to copy music from my audio cd onto the machine using the option on the win 2000 media player....but it only offers a bit rate of 56k...do I need to add...

am coming to a situation where we will be moving to a new house, apart from internet access .....wouldn't two mobile phones work better than a single land line for the family....anyone doing this...
