Lower printer colour?

Is there any way to lessen the amount of colour if you are printing a colour picture? I use windows xp and a dell Dell Photo AIO Printer 924.

When making the meringue part, should it rise up when you bake it. I use 3 egg whites with a bit of salt and cream of tartar and whisk them til firm then add 6 tablespoons of caster sugar and continue...

Is pre-heating an oven all that important?

Whenever I'm reading oven cooking instructions it always says to pre-heat the oven first, but does it really matter if you put stuff in an oven and then turn the oven on?
