Receiving TV abroad on laptop

I'm taking my new laptop abroad and hoping to be able to watch TV programmes via the BBC iPlayer etc whilst away. Has anyone experience of doing this?

Sky TV abroad? Legal?

Is it legal to purchase Sky Satellite TV in another European country? I ask because I've noticed that, if, for example, I want to watch something on BBC iPlayer or ITV Media Player, it is not allowed....
