fax with windows xp home

I had aked what I need to fax using windows xp home. the only problem I have a cable modem instead of land line service. is there a way I can fax , I do have a scanner and printer.

What do I need to fax in Windows XP. And can I fax to someone that has a fax machine if I do not have a fax machine. I know I don't know at this point, so stupid I am!

I have a firewall and anti virus already installed, Norton's firewall, McAfee anti virus. what should I do? I know sp-2 has firewall and anti virus.
